L’UNIMA organise des Happy Apéros durant le festival Charleville-Mézières et des rencontres pour se retrouver et célébrer l’amitié entre marionnettistes de même que pour échanger des idées et discuter des défis auxquels notre organisation internationale est confrontée. Comment penser les nouveaux défis ? Comment penser les attentes ? Comment créer des réponses ? Comment penser l’UNIMA de demain, plus proactive, plus en phase avec les différentes réalités du monde des arts de la marionnette ? Ces questions et bien d’autres interpellent notre organisation internationale de la marionnette pour la rendre plus active et plus proche. Parlons ensemble de notre avenir.

ATLANTIC SECTION ATLANTIQUE
Mermaid Theatre - WIndsor, N.S.
Despite the recent cycle of hurricanes, fires, and floods, Nova Scotia remains an exquisite place to live, work, play, and call home with summers that rival those experienced anywhere else in the country. Summer at Mermaid is a time when returning shows are welcomed home and plans are finalized for touring to begin again in the fall. Mermaid’s newest offering, It’s OK To
Be Different, by Todd Parr, made it safely back to Windsor this past June, after a highly successful, nine-month, visit to venues around North America, Mermaid’s first since closing for Covid. After considerable refurbishment, it will be remounted for a west-coast swing beginning in October and tour along with The Rainbow Fish which will travel predominantly up and down the Eastern seaboard from October to May. MermaidTV continues to flourish with the completion of Animalino Mi’Kmaw, Acadian French, and Gaelic, thirty episodes that playfully teach words and phrases with the use of a human and puppet host and digital animation created at our MermaidTV studios. Mermaid’s Institute of Puppetry Arts hosted the thirteenth iteration of its popular Animotion Puppetry Intensive in May followed by the third installment of AQM and UNIMA Canada’s, Pro Circuit training initiative. And finally, Mermaid’s Artist Loft has been very active with puppet artists from Colorado, New York City, Nova Scotia, and Quebec availing of the in-kind space and mentoring offered as part of the programming.

My puppet short film “IDOL” has won three more film festival awards: Best Experimental (Toronto Shorts, Canada), Best International Story (Madness, USA) and an Audience Award (CinemaZero, Italy). Meanwhile, Michèle Smolkin and I given a few more performances of “La chevalière errante” and this summer I have had my baptism by fire as Muppet-style puppeteer for the pilot episode of a webseries for children produced locally on BC’s Sunshine Coast.

Shadowland - Toronto
Shadowland invites you to our annual Ward’s Island Fire Parade PARKTOPIA on Friday, August 4.
PARKTOPIA is a theatrical exploration of parks as essential community spaces that offer tranquil respite from urban intensity.
Gather at 8:15 pm at the Ward’s Island Association Clubhouse.
Performance starts at 8:30 pm with a hand-made lantern parade, shadow puppetry, live music and extraordinary visual images!
Donations are welcome.

Cabaret Décadanse - Montréal
Les 26 et 27 juillet prochains au FIAMS (Saguenay, Québec, Canada) aura lieu la Première mondiale de Bataille Royale, un spectacle de variété affrontant les divas marionnettes de la compagnie Cabaret Décadanse et la dragqueen Barbada dans un féroce duel de numéros musicaux tout en humour et en sensualité. C’est la première fois qu’une compétition du genre se produit où le public décidera qui sera couronnée Reine du lipsync. 26-27 juillet 2023 au Théâtre Palace, Arvida, Québec Canada
Dans ce cabaret survolté où les verres s’enchaînent alors qu’on s’éclate entre adultes consentants, une bataille musicale haute en couleur fait rage. Les extraordinaires personnages du mondialement célèbre Cabaret Décadanse se mesurent à la prodigieuse drag queen Barbada. Qui parmi les divas de chair ou bien de mousse, sera sacrée reine incontestée du lip sync? Ne manquez pas ce combat sans merci où fuseront perruques et paillettes!
On July 26 and 27, FIAMS (Saguenay, Quebec, Canada) will host the World Premiere of Battle Royale, a variety show pitting the puppet divas of the Cabaret Décadanse company against the drag queen Barbada in a fierce duel of humorous and sensual musical numbers. This is the first time a competition of its kind has taken place where the public will decide who will be crowned Queen of Lipsync. July 26-27, 2023 at the Palace Theater, Arvida, Quebec Canada
In this supercharged cabaret where the drinks are linked while we have fun between consenting adults, a colorful musical battle rages. Le Théâtre de la Dame de Cœur présente tout l’été jusqu’au 20 août 2023 son spectacle à succès « Victor et le cadeau des songes » sur son site enchanteur à Upton en Montérégie. Après avoir accueilli plus de 20 000 spectateurs à sa première année, le théâtre est fier d’offrir à nouveau cette production aux milles couleurs! Pendant 80 minutes, laissez-vous emporter par l'histoire de Victor, un jeune homme ambitieux qui, le jour de son anniversaire, fait une rencontre onirique avec un hamster malicieux. Ce mystérieux guide à fourrure, aussi loufoque que perspicace, est-il le reflet de Victor lui-même?
