Anaïs est une comédienne, autrice et créatrice d'origine belge vivant à Vancouver. Depuis plusieurs années, Anaïs se spécialise dans le théâtre d'objets. À Vancouver, elle a écrit, créé et produit les spectacles de théâtre d'objets "Clémentine" avec Emilie Leclerc, "Cendrillon" avec Annie Lefebvre et "La Petite Sirène", dirigé par Mika Laulainen. Elle travaille sur différents spectacles pour le Théâtre La Seizième et collabore régulièrement avec la compagnie de théâtre d'objets montréalaise La Pire Espèce.

En 1976, Axis Mime Theatre a été fondé par des artistes mimes de formation professionnelle, Lin Bennett, Wendy Gorling, Elizabeth Murray-Byers et Wayne Specht. En 2015, Chris McGregor a succédé au fondateur Wayne Specht en tant que directeur artistique et, avec l’actuel directeur général, Daune Campbell, et la coordinatrice des tournées, Petrice Brett, continue de créer des pièces originales de classe mondiale, des ateliers et des activités de sensibilisation.

DUFFY'S PUPPETS - The Imaginarium Puppet Company

La Imaginarium Puppet Company a été créée en 2016 par des amis de longue date, Trevor Duffy et Danny Jaycock. Trevor et Danny partent de la conception d’une idée ou d’une histoire et la transforment en une production en direct. Tout, de l’intrigue aux marionnettes, en passant par les décors et les numéros musicaux, est original. The Imaginarium Puppet Company was created in 2016 by longtime friends Trevor Duffy and Danny Jaycock. Trevor and Danny take an idea/story from conception and transform it into a live production. Everything from the storyline, to the puppets, to the sets, to the musical numbers are all original. With the addition of their 3rd puppeteer, Simon Gushulak, their character’s come alive on stage.

JENY CASSADY
|
Jeny s’amuse avec les marionnettes depuis 1991 – conception, construction, interprétation, encadrement sur le plateau, éducation et direction de marionnettes. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en beaux-arts avec distinction en interprétation de l’Université de Victoria et a suivi une formation auprès de professionnels respectés du monde entier dans les domaines de l’interprétation de masques, de l’interprétation, de l’art clownesque, de la marionnette, de la marionnette à main et à tringle et de l’animatronique.

Jeny has been getting friendly with puppets since 1991 – puppet designing, building, performing, on-set coaching, educating, and directing. She has a BFA with distinction in acting from the University of Victoria, and has trained with respected professionals from around the world in mask performance, acting, clowning, marionette, hand and rod puppeteering, and animatronics.

JOYLYN SECUNDA
|
Joylyn Secunda is a physical theatre artist, actor, dancer, and puppeteer based in Vancouver. They have performed their solo physical comedy, The Moaning Yoni, 50 times in cities across Canada and recently premiered their solo mime show, The Routine at the rEvolver Festival. They starred as Scrooge in A Wonderheads Christmas Carol (The Wonderheads), and as Zephyr in Crisis on Planet Z (Monster Theatre) and performed as a puppeteer in The Breathing Hole (National Arts Centre) and It’s Okay to Be Different (Mermaid Theatre). Joylyn was mentored by Crystal Pite during their Startle Reflex Residency. They are a BFA Acting graduate from UBC and have studied clown with John Turner (Mump & Smoot), puppetry with Peter Balkwill (Old Trout) in Banff, mime with Dean Evans (Cirque du Soleil), Corporeal mime at Théâtre Omnibus, and devised theatre at Dell’Arte International.

KALEIDOSCOPE THEATRE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Kaléidoscope est la seule compagnie pour jeunes publics de l’île de Vancouver qui offre une expérience théâtrale complète, toutes les représentations sur la scène principale étant présentées dans la McPherson Playhouse. Nous offrons chaque année trois productions majeures à un public familial, dont deux sont vues par des groupes scolaires organisés. Kaleidoscope is the only TYA company on Vancouver Island that provides a full theatrical experience, with all main stage performances being offered in the McPherson Playhouse. We present three major productions each year for a family audience, two of which are seen by organized school groups. Our work features original scripts every year, as well as classic stories told with imagination and creative interpretation. We also work with local and regional actors, puppeteers, and playwrights in area productions.

Ventriloquist and family entertainer Kellie Haines started talking and singing to her stuffed animals at the age of 8 and when they started talking back, she knew she had a show! Kellie has a BA Specialized Honors in Drama and is a multitalented entertainer with a background in theatre, clowning, singing and dance.

My artistic world includes the primary interests of puppetry, comics/graphic novels, and their offshoots of sculpture and drawing. A recent and joyful discovery has been improv, and six months into my adventures with that, I have no intention of stopping. With boldness in mind, I feel strongly that singing and dancing, in some form, will also be explored this year.

Mika Laulainen est une réalisatrice indépendante installée à Vancouver et sur le territoire non cédé des peuples salish de la côte, notamment les nations Musqueam, Squamish et Tsleil-Waututh. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en théâtre, avec une spécialisation en mise en scène, de l’Université de Victoria. Mika Laulainen is a freelance director based in Vancouver and on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. She holds a BFA in Theatre, with a specialization in directing from the University of Victoria. Mika is also a playwright, a puppeteer, a producer, and a creator with a focus on ensemble driven, physical work. She holds both Canadian and American citizenship and has directed across Canada and the US. Elle travaille justement en français et l’anglais.

Mind of a Snail est un duo de marionnettes d’ombre actuellement situé à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique. Depuis 2003, Chloé Ziner et Jessica Gabriel développent un style de narration visuelle à plusieurs niveaux en utilisant des rétroprojecteurs comme principale source de lumière. Leurs spectacles se situent à l’intersection de la marionnette, des arts visuels, du clown et de la musique. En tant que collaborateurs artistiques, ils souhaitent explorer au-delà des frontières du théâtre traditionnel et créer des expériences immersives magiques pour leur public. Mind of a Snail is a shadow puppetry duo currently based out of Vancouver BC. Since 2003, Chloé Ziner and Jessica Gabriel have been developing a multilayered style of visual storytelling using overhead projectors as their main light source. Their performances play at the intersection of puppetry, visual arts, clowning & music. As artistic collaborators, they are interested in exploring beyond the boundaries of traditional theatre, and creating magical immersive experiences for their audiences. Mind of a Snail’s shadow theatre is like an early animation created live before your eyes.

Monica Ila est une artiste émergente en arts visuels, créatrice de monstres et de marionnettes. Elle aime rendre l’art accessible à un public de tout âge et de tous horizons. Monica a collaboré à de nombreuses expositions et installations du studio Long Grass de Calgary. Elle a également présenté ses œuvres au festival Animated Objects et au OUF! Festival de Casteliers. Monica croit fermement que l’art sert à rassembler les communautés et pour se faire, elle passe joyeusement son temps à imaginer des créatures magnifiques, créer des marionnettes et peindre des robots!

Monica Ila is an emerging visual artist, monster maker and puppeteer. She loves to make art that is accessible to viewers of all ages and from all walks of life. Monica has co-created several works with the Calgary based Long Grass Studio. She has presented work at the Festival of Animated Objects and the OUF! Festival Off Casteliers. She believes that art is instrumental in bringing communities closer together and happily spends her time dreaming up creatures, making puppets and painting robots.

PAM TZENG

PAM TZENG est une artiste de la danse, une chorégraphe, une interprète, une conservatrice et une éducatrice du mouvement établie à Calgary. Biologiste devenue artiste, son parcours l’a amenée à créer et à se produire au Canada, en Europe, à Taïwan, aux États-Unis et au Brésil. Tzeng s’intéresse à la fois à la création en solo et aux projets expérimentaux de collaboration multidisciplinaire. Ses chorégraphies sont guidées par l’impulsion et la découverte. Elle est connue pour créer des spectacles viscéraux et animés qui exploitent le paysage émotionnel de la différence et de l’empathie. Le travail de Tzeng intègre des outils et des perspectives provenant de divers univers artistiques : le clown, la marionnette, le théâtre, l’art visuel et la performance.

PAM TZENG is a Calgary based dance artist, choreographer, performer, curator and movement educator. A biologist turned artist, her journey has taken her to create and perform across Canada, Europe, Taiwan, United States and Brazil. Tzeng’s interests lie in both solo creation and experimental multi-disciplinary collaborative projects. Her choreographies are driven by impulse and discovery. She is known for creating visceral and animated performances that mine the emotional landscape of difference and empathy. Tzeng’s work integrates tools and perspectives from various artistic worlds: clown, puppetry, theatre, visual and performance art.

She also has experience in mask making, directing, props, painting, illustrations, costume design, and some stage/film acting. Sue est mime, clown, conteuse et marionnettiste au Manitoba. Elle est l’une des fondatrices de la Loonisee Clown Troupe et l’ancienne directrice de Clownwise Inc. Sue a développé, administré et participé au programme Clown in the Hospital à l’Hôpital Saint-Boniface avec Manitoba Artists in Healthcare et au projet « Arts Ability » avec le Centre canadien d’études sur le handicap qui a offert des programmes artistiques aux personnes handicapées dans six sites au Manitoba.

Sue is mime, clown, storyteller and puppeteer based in Manitoba. She is a founder Loonisee Clown Troupe and former director of Clownwise Inc. Sue developed, administrated and clowned in the Clown in the Hospital Program at the St. Boniface Hospital with Manitoba Artists in Healthcare and the “Arts Ability” Project with Canadian Centre on Disability Studies that provided arts programming for people with disabilities at six sites in Manitoba.

La Old Trout Puppet Workshop est une compagnie de théâtre de marionnettes, fondée dans un ranch du sud de l’Alberta en 1999. La première année de fonctionnement de la compagnie a été une expérience d’isolement collaboratif intense - les « Truites » vivaient ensemble, cuisinaient ensemble et travaillaient ensemble. Ils ramassaient les œufs, nourrissaient les cochons et présentaient leur premier spectacle devant un dortoir rempli de cow-boys et de Huttériens. Un an plus tard, ils ont déménagé à Calgary, ayant épuisé les joies de la vie dans une cabane chauffée au charbon. Les « Truites » parcourent maintenant le monde, se produisant dans des festivals qui célèbrent l’art de l’extraordinaire.

The Old Trout Puppet Workshop is a puppet theatre company, founded on a ranch in southern Alberta in 1999. The company's first year of operation was an experience of intense collaborative isolation – the Trouts lived together, cooked together, and worked together. They collected eggs, fed the pigs, and premiered their first show to a bunkhouse full of cowboys and Hutterites. A year later, they moved to Calgary, having exhausted the joys of living in a coal-heated shack. The Trouts now travel the world, performing at festivals that celebrate the art of the extraordinary.

The Circus of Objects, founded and headed by Grant Guy, is a tabletop theatre of objects, prop comedy, screwball magic, mock circus acts and plenty of DADA DUBs, all at the intersection of controlled anarchy. The Circus of Objects was born out go the ashes of ADHERE+DENY.

Tim Gosley’s four decades in puppetry have included a wide spectrum of projects. He was the festival director for Puppets for Peace in Victoria, B.C. He is a Gemini Award winning puppeteer on TV series including The Muppets, Fraggle Rock, and was Basil Bear for nine years on Canadian Sesame Street. He creates his own shows for both families and adults in different techniques including LED shadows; low-tech live video projections; object manipulation; and Muppet-style manipulation.

Né et éduqué à Minsk, en Biélorussie, Viktor Barkar s’est intéressé à la marionnette professionnelle dès l’âge de 9 ans, lorsqu’il a assisté pour la première fois au théâtre de marionnettes de l’État biélorusse. Depuis lors, il a été captivé par cette forme d’art. Viktor a développé ses spectacles de marionnettes et a également étudié en privé le dessin et la sculpture en trois dimensions. Il a personnellement conçu et fabriqué plus de 25 marionnettes pour ses propres spectacles de marionnettes.

Born and raised in Minsk, Belarus, Viktor Barkar became interested in professional puppetry since the age of 9 when he attended the Belorussian State Puppet Theatre for the first time. Ever since then he was captivated by this art form. Viktor developed his puppet shows and also privately studied 3-dimensional drawing and sculpture. He has personally designed and made over 25 puppets for his own puppet plays.

Hailing from Victoria, B.C., Victor Dolhai is an award-winning actor, originally from the theatre, with a quickly emerging presence in film, TV, voiceover and puppetry. He is a graduate of the University of Victoria, a two-time participant in The Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program, and was invited to complete two years of study at the Stratford Festival's Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre. Victor’s theatre credits include projects with The Arts Club Theatre Company, rice & beans theatre, Green Thumb Theatre, Pi Theatre, Carousel Theatre, Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre, The Chemainus Theatre Festival, Theatre NorthWest, Shakespeare in the Ruff, The Belfry Theatre, Electric Company Theatre, Persephone Theatre, Patrick Street Productions, ITSAZOO Productions, Kaleidoscope Theatre, Kokoro Dance, and SNAFU Dance Theatre – of which he is also a founding artist. Additionally, Victor has appeared in 21 cabarets with Atomic Vaudeville, in three seasons at the Stratford Festival, and in three seasons at Bard on the Beach. His TV puppetry credits include work in Pika Creek, Goosebumps, Superchefs and Lost Ollie. His on camera acting credits include work in The Hunting Party, Supernatural, Siren, Reboot: The Guardian Code, Les Filles du Roi (VIFF 2023), Raf (TIFF 2019), and 2 seasons of Android Employed. His writing credits include sketches for the kid’s comedy podcast The Plop.

Founded in 1991 by Wendy Passmore-Godfrey, WP Puppet Theatre Society (WPTS) harnesses the power of puppetry to inspire social change and foster creativity, empathy, and community engagement. Our diverse programs embed puppetry arts across various age groups and settings, from classrooms and community centres to online platforms. Through hands-on workshops, interactive performances, and video production, WPTS brings educational enrichment to life, emphasizing emotional literacy and self-expression. WPTS also produces the biennial Puppet Power Conference. Since 2001, Puppet Power has explored how puppetry provides a creative and innovative perspective to the issues of our time through themes like existentialism, literacy, and intergenerational connection. This hybrid event brings together master puppeteers and enthusiasts from around the world for engaging talks, hands-on workshops, panels, and performances.

XSTINE COOK

Xstine Cook est une cinéaste autodidacte et une artiste multidisciplinaire connue pour le film « Spirit of the Bluebird ». Créatrice de masques et de marionnettes et artiste de théâtre expérimental depuis plus de 20 ans, Xstine a étudié les masques et les marionnettes à Bali, en Italie, en France et sur la côte ouest du Canada. Elle est diplômée de l’école internationale de théâtre Dell'Arte en Californie et est l’une des fondatrices du Green Fools Theatre, de la Calgary Animated Objects Society et du Festival of Animated Objects.

Xstine Cook is a self-taught filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist known for the film “Spirit of the Bluebird”. A mask and puppet maker and experimental theatre artist for over 20 years, Xstine studied mask and puppetry in Bali, Italy, France, and the West Coast of Canada. She graduated from Dell’Arte International Theatre School in California, and is a founder of Green Fools Theatre, Calgary Animated Objects Society, and the Festival of Animated Objects.

ZSOFIA OPRA-SZABO

Zsofia est une conceptrice de théâtre originaire de Budapest, en Hongrie. Elle a étudié à l’Université hongroise des beaux-arts et est diplômée en costumes, décors et conception de marionnettes. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme, elle a travaillé comme conceptrice pour de nombreux théâtres en Hongrie et en Roumanie. Ses conceptions de marionnettes et de décors ont été présentées à Budapest et à Prague dans de multiples expositions.
Au printemps 2015, elle a créé et donné un nouveau cours de marionnettes à l’Université de l’Alberta. Elle a également donné des ateliers sur les masques à l’U Alberta et créé des masques pour divers projets de théâtre et de danse. |

Zsofia is a theatre designer from Budapest, Hungary. She studied at Hungarian University of Fine Arts and has a degree in costumes, set, and puppet design. After completing her degree, she worked as a designer for many different theatres in Hungary and Romania. Her puppet and set designs have been showcased in both Budapest and Prague in multiple exhibitions.
In the spring of 2015 she created and taught a new course in puppetry at the University of Alberta. She has also taught mask workshops at U Alberta and created masks for a variety of theatre and dance projects. |
