Dear members,
First of all, we extend our best wishes for peace and serenity in 2026 to each and every one of you.
Next, two wishes just as important, addressed to all of us as UNIMA members: The first is that, in these difficult times we are going through, we continue to be a dynamic, active, and united community, defending our ideals of democracy, inclusion, and solidarity, in order to counter the prevailing authoritarianism.
The second is that we continue with fervor to develop the many important projects we are putting in place for the future, keeping our focus on their impact on the collective as a whole, rather than on the individual alone.
In the hope that these wishes keep us true to our non-corporate nature and to our artistic and social commitment, let us move forward together, into 2026!

Dear puppeteers, dear colleagues and friends!
UNIMA-UKRAINE welcomes you and invites all the connoisseurs of puppetry art to join the online events offered by our centre.
Since 2011, UNIMA-UKRAINE has hosted the All-Ukrainian online festival "Premieres of a season", within the framework of which all puppet theaters of Ukraine have the opportunity to submit video recordings of performances from the last season and compete for victory in the nominations "Best Performance for Children", "Best performance for teenagers and adults", "Best acting", "Best direction", "Best scenography", "Best dramaturgy" and others.
We have the honour to invite to the online broadcasts of performances that were recommended by the "Premieres of a season 2024-2025" jury for presentation to the public. Broadcasts will take place every Saturday and Sunday from 24th of January till 15th of March 2026 at 16:00 (EET).
Access to video recordings of performances will be available for 24 hours from the start of the online premiere.
The broadcast of the performance will take place on the YouTube channel of the UNIMA-UKRAINE (access link https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGWM92kCwLEqrHQf5F3ZJhXCkIoIbpooJ).

Depuis 2011, UNIMA-UKRAINE organise le festival en ligne panukrainien « Premières de la saison », offrant à tous les théâtres de marionnettes d'Ukraine la possibilité de soumettre des enregistrements vidéo de leurs spectacles de la saison précédente et de concourir dans les catégories suivantes : « Meilleur spectacle pour enfants », « Meilleur spectacle pour adolescents et adultes », « Meilleur jeu d'acteur », « Meilleure mise en scène », « Meilleure scénographie », « Meilleure dramaturgie », etc.
Nous avons l'honneur de vous inviter à assister aux diffusions en ligne des spectacles recommandés par le jury des « Premières de la saison 2024-2025 » pour une présentation au public. Les diffusions auront lieu tous les samedis et dimanches du 24 janvier au 15 mars 2026 à 16h00 (EET).
L'accès aux enregistrements vidéo des représentations sera disponible pendant 24 heures à compter du début de la diffusion en ligne.

Free, available to all, full of new thoughts and insights, Puppetry International Research, an open access scholarly journal, is another step in UNIMA-USA's goal to promote, educate, and support growth in the art of puppetry as well as to provide resources to people who find puppetry important to their lives. PIR is a space for in-depth, critical discussion about the art.
Volume 3, No. 1 includes a robust focus section on PUPPET DRAMATURGY, As Seen in the Chicago International Puppet Theatre Festival, guest edited by Ana Diaz Barriga and Paulette Richards. The articles include Jesse Njus on Frank Maugueri’s The Cabinet; Skye Strauss on Théâtre de l’Entrouvert’s Anywhere; Katherine McNamara on Plexus Polaire’s Dracula: Lucy’s Dream; Oplanietet on Ty Defoe’s Skeleton Canoe; and an interview from JEM with Amethyst First Rider and Peter Balkwill on the film Iniskim – Return of the Buffalo, and the performance project it documents. Puppetry International Research (PIR) is a global, interdisciplinary, academic journal dedicated to puppetry and the allied areas of masks, performing objects, and material performance. Its mission is to foster scholarship on puppet theatre and related arts as practiced in the past and present around the world and deepen historical and theoretical understanding of the field. Its empirical, analytical, and theoretical peer-reviewed articles, as well as critical book, performance, and exhibition reviews, and field reports aim to strengthen puppetry studies as an academic discipline. The journal welcomes article, report, and review submissions as well as proposals for guest edited focus sections on an ongoing basis from scholars and reflective practitioners from all related disciplines. A project of UNIMA-USA, growing out of the peer-review section of its acclaimed magazine, Puppetry International, PIR publishes twice a year on the CUNY Academic Commons.

*Puppetry International Research* (PIR) est une revue académique internationale et interdisciplinaire consacrée à l'art de la marionnette et aux domaines connexes tels que les masques, les objets performatifs et la performance matérielle. Sa mission est de promouvoir la recherche sur le théâtre de marionnettes et les arts apparentés, tels qu'ils ont été pratiqués par le passé et aujourd'hui dans le monde entier, et d'approfondir la compréhension historique et théorique de ce domaine. Ses articles empiriques, analytiques et théoriques, évalués par des pairs, ainsi que ses comptes rendus critiques d'ouvrages, de spectacles et d'expositions, et ses rapports de terrain, visent à renforcer les études sur la marionnette en tant que discipline académique. La revue accepte en permanence les soumissions d'articles, de rapports et de comptes rendus, ainsi que les propositions de numéros spéciaux dirigés par des invités, émanant de chercheurs et de praticiens de toutes les disciplines connexes. The NL Puppet Couple (Tara Manuel and Michael Rigler) will be touring Tara's new political puppet play for adults to Arts and Culture Centres across Newfoundland in March. For All the Premiers I’ve Loved Before is a spicy love letter to NL politics and history, a humorous and provocative look at the patterns, proclivities, successes and failures of many of our premiers. The piece is written by Tara Manuel, with direction by Lois Brown, artwork and puppets by Michael Rigler, assistant direction by Candice Pike, and performed by Tara & Michael.

Madisimagan: Bringing Objects to Life
In collaboration with the Anicinabe organization Minwashin, Ombres Folles is leading a large-scale artistic mediation project focused on traditional objects and their power to tell stories. As part of this project, artists Jacqueline Michel and Maude Gareau created a short object theatre piece, which they presented in Pikogan and Kitcisakik this past January. They will return to these communities, along with their colleagues from Minwashin, for two additional residencies in March and April.

CRANK-A-PALOOZA!
| Join us for CAMP’s CRANK-A-PALOOZA! Crankies (or Moving Panoramas) are a unique way of sharing a visual tale over a series of minutes, sharing only what you want your audience to see, one frame at a time. Learn storytelling techniques from renowned puppeteer and teacher Peter Balkwill and create your own Crankies with multidisciplinary artist Monica Ila in this three-part series. Participants will have time to conceive a story, construct a letter-sized cardboard Crankie Theatre, and share their creations with workshop participants. All materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary. //////////////////////// Joignez-vous à nous pour la CRANK-A-PALOOZA de CAMP! Les crankies (ou panoramas animés) sont une manière unique de raconter une histoire visuelle sur quelques minutes, en révélant uniquement ce que vous souhaitez que votre public voie, une image à la fois. Join us for the 6th Annual Light It Up! We are thrilled to collaborate once again with our friends and hosts East End Arts and partner Workman Arts to spread light and beauty in these dark and cold times.
Starting Tuesday Feb 24th, we're running FREE lantern workshops at the East End Arts' St. Matthews Clubhouse – build your own beautiful lantern.
For the grand finale, bring your lanterns, friends and family to the Light It Up! Equinox Community Parade on March 21st. You'll find glowing lanterns, music, stilt-walkers, fire artist, hot chocolate, and a warming fire to push back the winter dark and imagine the coming Spring.

À partir du mardi 24 février, nous proposons des ateliers de lanternes GRATUITS au club-house St. Matthews d'East End Arts – créez votre propre lanterne !
Pour le grand final, apportez vos lanternes, vos amis et votre famille au défilé communautaire de l'équinoxe « Illuminez la ville ! » le 21 mars. Vous y trouverez des lanternes illuminées, de la musique, des échassiers, un artiste du feu, du chocolat chaud et un feu réconfortant pour chasser l'obscurité de l'hiver et rêver au printemps à venir. Ateliers gratuits de fabrication de lanternes au club-house de St. Matthew
